Day 46 Sun 30th May

15 miles from Jedburgh to Melrose
Here is my pitch at Jedburgh. Tight sqeeze.

We walked down a quiet country lane and regained St Cuthbert's Way which incorporates Dere Street. Both are clearly waymarked all along the trail.

The paths headed NW through mature beech woods, the remnants of Scots Pine forest and fields. There were several places where we we walking next to fast flowing rivers and we had to cross over once using a new, but rather wobbly, suspension bridge.

I really enjoyed this section - easy to follow, good paths and clear views (if mainly pastoral). Eventually the paths parted and I walked along Dere Street parallel with the A68 and only 30m away from it. I had to walk along the verge for the last mile into St Boswells.
I then rejoined St Cuthbert's Way and followed it over the Eilden Hills to Melrose. It is a charming, compact town and the campsite is near the centre and the Abbey.
