I had hardly stuck my head out of the tent when Carol arrived with a mug of tea, to be followed shortly afterwards by two slices of toast and butter. Mike Gill, I hope you realise that you are married to an angel!
I had to smile when I saw that someone had been daft enough to walk all the way from London to Todmorden just to plant a bit of turf. Sod that!

Initially I had to walk 4 miles down the Rochdale Canal to get back to the Pennine Way. However I really enjoyed the walk in the early sunshine with Stoodley Pike hovering in the background.

Then it was a steep climb through walled paths around cottages and farms and over Heptonstall Moor. As well as seeing and hearing curlews and peewits I thought I also recognised the occasional calls from another moorland bird. Finally after getting a good view of one bird through the binoculars I was able to confirm that I had been listening to golden plovers.
Passing reservoirs and The White Horse Inn it was on to Top Withens.

This was the inspiration for Wuthering Heights. Or was it?

What a disclaimer!
Going around Ponden we met another new hazard that we've never encountered before. We've met cattle of all kinds, horses, donkeys and thousands of sheep. But today we faced a new problem.

After Ponden Reservoir it was a long but easy climb up and over Ickornshaw Moor to the Cowling.
On the fitness side both Gyp and I are really going really well at the moment. Except that I am getting real pain under the balls of my feet. I have tried foam insoles and cushions but at times the pain is excruciating. It's like a severe bruising but with burning pains. Every 4 or 5 miles I have to take my boots and socks off and exercise both feet to relieve the pain.
