I know that some people are worried that I don't eat enough but I do eat a lot when it's available. I had a good breakfast in Hexham yesterday, lots throughout the day and scampi and chips at night. This morning I stocked up with loads in Bellingham and ate a steak pie for breakfast.
I didn't really enjoy today's walking much. The morning was spent trudging over featureless moors (Abbey Rigg, Lough Shaw and Lord's Shaw). Then it was over Padon Hill before a horrible, wet, steep slog up to Brownrigg Head.
One good thing was seeing one of my favourite flowers - tormentil. Although it is very common on fells it only grows above about 1000 feet so only fell-walkers see it and I know I'm in the hills when I see its diminutive flowers.

The afternoon was spent walking through hundreds of thousands of conifers. Redesdale Forest.

To make matters worse I lost my glasses and spent a long time retracing my tracks trying to find them, without success. Luckily I have a spare pair. My left ankle is also still swollen and hurting.
After pitching my tent we went to the local hotel - closed, now a B&B. I did check it out, even going inside but saw no signs of life. So we checked out the cafe/shop/service station - closed.

So we have a 20 mile walk over the fells to Jedburgh after having no tea or supper and only 6 chocolate digestives and a Rocky Road bar to eat. NOW is the time to worry about food!
More importantly, Pennine Way walkers now have to walk 45 miles from Bellingham to Kirk Yetholm with no source of food or drink available.
