I have seen the sedentary surfer set (no surf), the keel-boat crew, the cabin-cruiser clan, and the nervous, novice narrow-boaters tacking their way down the canals. All of them interesting in their own way and they made my journey all the more enjoyable.
Having camped at Hixon last night I had 6 miles of road walking down country lanes to rejoin the Staffordshire Way. Again it was well signposted and I had no trouble following it, even around Uttoxeter. However, when I had to cross the A50 I got hopelessly lost and had to go over a crash-barrier at the side of the road.
I then had a very interesting encounter with over one hundred cattle that followed us closely across three linked fields.

These photos were taken just after we had gone through the gate to safety.

The "campsite" is a field with a cold tap. The outside WC is on the farm up the road. Having enjoyed hot water and a shower virtually every night for the first three weeks I am now experiencing my third night in a row without hot water. At least I should get a seat by myself in the pub tonight.
