Day 28 Wed 12th May

Enjoyed the pub last night even though they did not do food. (I only ate a Double-Decker, 6 chocolate coconut rings and 2 packets of salted peanuts all day yesterday). I was born and brought up in NW Leics and the locals' accents were very similar to my own. The beer was also my old favourite, Marston's Pedigree and it had a really good sulphurous nose.
I was really looking forward to visiting Dovedale again, scene of many happy memories. I was not disappointed, especially seeing it exactly how I remembered it. I feared they might have put a Tarmac path right through but it still had its polished boulder paths. The best thing was seeing it without the weekend crowds. Gyp and I posed for a photo on the stepping-stones and we were the only ones there (apart from the kind lady who took the photo).

Usually there are queues on both sides trying to cross.

After Dovedale I carried on up Milldale then Wolfscote Dale to Hulme End. Lovely campsite on bank of River Manifold right opposite The Manifold Inn. Best of all it has hot water and showers - the first time for 4 days.
