Day 24 Sat 8th May

Although it was a cold, damp day and I had to keep my waterproofs on all day for the first time, I really enjoyed today. Well-signposted, well-trodden tracks made a pleasant change on The River Severn Way. Right next to river, no detours and the river is now less placid and has a slight current.
Ithen followed The Staffordshire & Worcester Canal all the way to Wolverley.

The more i do the
more I enjoy canal walking. They take you right through the heart of towns and cities with no traffic problems and no navigation problems. We had ten minutes rest in peace and quiet right in the middle of Kidderminster.

THE RIVER SEVERN WAY
Having followed the river upstream for just over 100 miles in six days I have very mixed feelings.
I really enjoyed the solitude and wildlife of the estuary. I really enjoyed the friendly "boaty" atmosphere, especially above Worcester. I loved mooching around the towns like Upton, Tewkesbury and Stourport.
However, I did not enjoy many aspects of the middle section. Fallen trees across the path, boisterous bovines, knee-high stinging nettles and wet grass, obstructions (including an electric fence) across the right of way, "Private -Keep out" signs, and the many tedious detours away from the river.
