Day 39 Sun 22nd May

REST DAY - REETH

My first rest day! I think we deserve one after 600 miles. Reeth seemed a natural choice. Excellent campsite, lovely place and near enough for Zoe to visit easily (50 miles).

We had a lovely day in red-hot sunshine. Lunch outside The Black Bull, lazing in the sun, then tea and cake outside a cafe in the square listening to the brass band. Bliss!

Shame I've got ten miles of road walking tomorrow over The Stang. I'm not looking forward to that, especially if it remains as hot.

Now writing this in The Buck at night with a wry smile on my face. There is a crowd of over a dozen Coast to Coasters who obviously tend to meet up every night. (I remember developing such relationships on the Pennine Way and I really enjoyed the comradeship. This makes me feel very alone as I sit in one corner). One guy, mid-thirties Essex-boy with his sunglasses perched on top of his shaven-head, is telling all within earshot about his exploits on the Coast to Coast so far. It later transpires that our hero is staying in B&Bs and sending his pack on ahead with a carrier because he found it hard going after day one. Bless!
