Day 53 Sun 6th June

20 miles from Kinross to Scone (near Perth)
A misty, overcast day but quite warm.
I walked to Milnathort along the A911 then took minor roads to Glenfarg (next to M90) and then on to Lochelbank farm. Then I took the Wallace Road ( a hill track) over Dron Hill and then down green lanes to Bridge of Earn. On the way over the hills I saw a patch of wild pansies.

The grass was very wet and while I tried to wring my socks out Gyp found another stick!

From the Bridge of Earn we had to walk 4 miles next to the A912 for 4 miles to Perth. Luckily there was a good cycle track but it was still a slog. (I had looked at other ways of crossing the River Earn but thought this option the best).
I crossed over the bridge at Perth

and after a short walk down the A93 I walked through the grounds of Scone Palace to the campsite.
Unfortunately it started to drizzle as we left Perth and this gradually got worse. So I had to pitch the tent (still wet from last night) in the rain and then get inside with a wet dog! Another night cooped up inside the tent.
I also found out whilst plotting tomorrow's route that the easiest way to get to Dunkeld is to retrace my steps to Perth (2 miles) before going North up the West bank of the River Tay. There is no way of crossing the river for several miles upstream.

  1. At least you haven't had to suffer that horrible 'night before returning to school feeling'!You lucky thing!Keep going Pete....the fulfillment of your ambition is in sight now.Just wonder how you're going to cope with the luxury of a bed after all this-or is Zoe going to have to put a tent up in the garden for you!
    Lots of love The Benbows!

  3. Can't think of anything worse than a night in a wet tent with a wet dog in the rain! It makes Peters nights in the caravan awning sound like pure luxury! Hey Pete, you're doing so well, hope the foot and ankle last out. Time you had another rest day(when the sun shines maybe). Loved the pic of the wild pansies, better than cultivated ones in my garden.Keep up the good walk! the end is nigh, as they say.
