Day 49 Wed2nd June

21 miles from Peebles to Cairn Hills
Walked due North on disused railway track which runs parallel to Eddleston Water all the way to Eddlestone. The path then goes right through the grounds of Barony Castle.

For the next few miles we wandered through forest tracks North to Shiplaw and then West to Noblehouse on the A701.
We saw over 20 of these rustic little buildings in the forest. I think they must be feeding stations for the deer. How kind.

When we were emerging from the forest we stumbled upon Andrew Murray's secret training camp.

I bought supplelies in West Linton and ate my first "brodie". It was greasy but much better than Scotch pies. I had decided to push on today because my wife Zoe and son Chris are driving up to see me tomorrow and I wanted to get there early. Gyp wasn't so sure about such a long day.

Nevertheless we took the Thieves Road NW past Baddinsgill Reservoir and over Cairn Muir to Cauldstane Slap. We then descended downhill until I could spot the Forth Bridges and then I pitched our tent in the spagnum moss between West Cairn and East Cairn. Later I discovered that our site was already home to a colony of red ants.

  1. Feeding stations for Deer?
    Not likely.
Were there any spent cartridges near them perhaps..

  2. Sadly, our Eli actually believed it actually was Andy Muray's secret training camp! Must be the blonde haircut.
