Day 13 27th April

15 miles from Lyn Bridge (Lynmouth) to Porlock
Over 3000 feet of ascent
Mileage to date 214 miles
Percentage of total mileage 20%

I decided to stop at Porlock, then Watchet tomorrow, to change two 20 mile days into three shorter days.
Retrospective view of Lynmouth.

First climb out of Lynmouth was long and steep to top of Countisbury Common.

Stopped to fill my Travel Tap (brilliant bit of kit - filters any water source) from Sisters Fountain at Glenthorne when I heard a cuckoo. Listened carefully and clearly heard it again twice.
Coast Path winds through woodlands for miles. Occasional views of sea and South Wales in the background. Eventually, after a diversion due to a landslip, we arrived at Culbone and saw what is claimed to be the smallest complete church in England.

Campsite is very regimented. Statics on the outside, then a ring of caravans with a space in the
middle for tents. So I was the entertainment for all of the sunbathers sat around me drinking beer and wine.
Gyp seemed much better today walking off road on paths. I'm feeling really good apart from my aching knees. The earlier worry about possible shinsplints seems to have been unfounded

  1. Your both doing well - Gyp looks like a sweetheart.

A problem I had on my JOGLE last year with my dog "Patch" was sore feet - we had a very slow start with lots of shorter days and rest days to allow her to heal. I'm not one for namby pambying dogs, but I did find one particular balm for her feet really helped sooth them and encourage healing while protecting them from further damage - if anyone can get hold of "Bow Wow Butterbalm" from a company called "Collarways" (easy to find online) and send some to you then it may really help. I've never used anything like it before - as I say, I don't pamper the dogs at all, but it was excellent - good also for any sore or chapped skin you may get along the way! I promise I'm nothing to do with them and am not on commission!!

When your going so well it can be difficult to decide to take a day off for doggy feet - I found it very frustrating, but you could probably both benefit from a day off to heal and re-charge your batteries!

Well done - your doing great!
